Yoga for Fibroids

Fibroids are benign tumors located in the uterus. Though this ball of fibers is noncancerous, it can cause hassle to a woman’s life, causing pain, a pelvic cramp and a heavy or irregular menstrual period.

Though there is no study proving that yoga can totally cure uterine fibroids, practicing the poses helps ease out the pain they cause. The pain is reduced when the hips are open and the lower back is decompressed. It creates more space within the uterus, allowing blood to flow freely.

Breathe Through

If you are suffering from uterine fibroids, consult your doctor before you get into any physical activity. You can modify your practice by using a cushion during seated poses to ease any discomfort. The following poses are focused on opening the hips and stretching the lower back. Follow along and breathe deeply as you dig into your natural painkiller.

Reclining Bound Angle Pose

This pose massages the organs within the abdomen while stretching the groin area.

To do the pose: Lie on your back with your toes planted together on the ground. Separate your legs to the sides allowing your knees to rest on the floor. Make sure that the soles of your feet are facing each other. If your knees can’t lower all the way down, you can use cushion underneath to support them. Place your hands on your belly and close your eyes. Take 3-5 deep breaths in this position.

Standing Forward Bend

This pose stretches the lower back and the hamstrings while stimulating your reproductive organs.

To do the pose: Stand tall with your feet together. Bring your hands in prayer and raise them up to the sky as you take a breath in. Then, fold forward by the waist and reach for your toes as you exhale. Hold this pose for 3-5 breaths.

Marichyasana III

This is a twisting pose that decompresses lower back tensions while stimulating all the internal organs within the torso, particularly in the abdominal region. It also helps increase the mobility of the spine.

To do the pose: Sit on the floor with your feet extended together. Bend your right knee and plant your right foot close to your groin. Take a breath in, then, bend forward, sending your right knee on the side of your body. Exhale as you twist to your right and place your knee behind your right shoulder. Interlace your fingers behind. Stay in this position for 3-5 breaths. Do the same process on the other leg.

Though yoga may not totally cure uterine fibroids, practicing these poses can help ease out the pain and fight it from gaining more mass. Flow regularly and practice good intentions. Allow yoga to open your healing possibilities. Be patient with yourself and have faith on your journey.
